Shaw Fund

A deep connection to the South and a real desire to give back to the province and its people have been the inspiration behind the creation of the Shaw Fund. It is a reflection of gratitude and a belief in the enduring potential of the people and communities of Southland.

“As a proud Southlander, I am honoured to give something back to my home province. Growing up in Southland, I was raised with a strong appreciation for hard work, education, honesty and staying grounded; values that I believe are the hallmark of the Southland community.”

Opening doors to opportunity

The Shaw Fund seeks to support organisations and initiatives for people facing barriers to opportunities, enabling them to participate, grow and contribute within their communities. Through this support the fund aims to encourage and strengthen connection and belonging, and empower people to make a positive and lasting contribution to the Southland region.

What the fund supports

This fund may support organisations and initiatives that:

  • Create opportunities for people who may otherwise miss out to participate, develop skills, confidence and achieve their potential.

  • Improving access to education, training, employment pathway and lifelong learning.

  • Encourage participation in sport, recreation, arts, culture and community life.

  • Provide practical support that enables people to move forward and improve their wellbeing.

  • Strengthen communities by building capacity, encouraging participation and creating lasting benefit for Southland.

How the fund works

Grants from the Shaw Fund will be made through contestable applications during the Southland Foundation annual grants round and will be assessed against the purpose of the fund.
