Western Southland Veterinary Club Legacy Fund
The Western Southland Veterinary Club Legacy Fund - Investing in the Future of Western Southland Veterinary Care.
Western Southland, progress has often begun the same way, with locals identifying a shared challenge and choosing to solve it together. More than 50 years ago, farming families in Western Southland recognised that reliable veterinary services were essential to the success and resilience of their community. From that shared understanding, a local initiative was formed to strengthen access to veterinary care in the district; a practical solution grounded in cooperation, foresight and rural determination.
Over time, as circumstances evolved and the original structure reached the end of its natural life, there remained a strong desire to preserve the intent behind it: to support veterinary services in Western Southland and safeguard the future of rural practice. Through the resettlement of the incorporated society with the Southland Foundation, the founding vision of the WSVC is safeguarded and will live on as a legacy for Western Southland.
A Legacy Reimagined for the Future
The Western Southland Veterinary Club Legacy Fund is an endowment created to support rural Western Southland students pursuing veterinary and agricultural studies through the provision of annual scholarships. This fund supports the long-term sustainability of rural veterinary care by supporting the education of young people with strong rural roots in Western Southland; those most likely to understand and serve communities like their own.
Why This Fund Matters
Veterinary and agricultural services are the backbone of rural communities. They safeguard livestock, support farmers, strengthen biosecurity, and help sustain the agricultural industries that Southland depends on. For students from rural areas, the cost of veterinary or agricultural related study can be significant. These scholarships exists to ease that burden — and to invest directly in the future capability of the Western Southland region.
By supporting young people with strong ties to Western Southland, this fund aims to:

· Encourage rural students to pursue professional training
· Strengthen long-term veterinary and agricultural capacity in our region
