Don't Let Your Generosity Go Unclaimed

As 31 March approaches it’s the perfect time to think about the benefits of giving.

Many of our donors don't realise that New Zealand's tax system actively encourages philanthropy with a simple and powerful incentive: by donating during your lifetime you can make an even greater impact by receiving a 33% tax credit on donations*. This in turn encourages independent community -driven philanthropy.

Southland Foundation is here to help you maximize the impact of your charitable giving. Here’s how it works: When you donate through Southland Foundation, you can claim back one-third of your donation via a tax rebate. For example:

A $30 donation = $10 credit

A $300 donation = $100 credit

A $3,000 donation = $1,000 credit

Claiming your tax credit is easy. You can either:

  • Submit your donation receipts via your myIR account throughout the year, or

  • File a tax credit claim form (IR526) from April the following year

At Southland Foundation, we’re committed to helping strengthen our community. Whether you donate to your existing fund, contribute to a Community Group Fund, or give to the Southland Impact Fund, every gift helps build a thriving Southland community.

*Up to the level of income tax paid.
